Mobile Quality Of Service

Survey Being Conducted By PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority recently conducted an independent Quality of Service(QoS) survey along the GT road(from Lahore to Peshawar) and the Indus Highway(Peshawar to Karachi) from the 22nd to the 24th of February. This was done to measure the performance of the Cellular Mobile Operators(CMOs) concerning mobile coverage, service availability and quality. According to PTA’s press release, the survey’s results reveal that good 3G coverage is available throughout the GT road while the Indus Highway has adequate 3G coverage with a patchy 4G coverage.

PTA has stated in a Press Release that the overall QoS was satisfactory. However, there were a few anomalies that were observed in the voice and SMS QoS parameters of all the Cellular Mobile Operators(CMOs) along the GT Road and the Indus Highway. These CMOs have met the 3G and 4G signal strength and User Data throughout the GT Road, and the signal strength of these CMOs were found to be in compliance with the license standards on the Indus Highway. However, the 4G strength was below license standards on the Indus Highway. As reported by PTA, all the CMOs have been redirected to rectify the issues highlighted by the PTA, to improve the Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) to meet the license standards, and to plan additional resources throughout the above stated route, that is, the GT Road and the Indus Highway. PTA will also be conducting a confirmatory survey upon the receipt of compliance from the licensees.
