Epic Games Buys Fall Guys Game Developer Tonic Games Group

2020’s Big Hit Game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Bought by Fortnite Creator’s Epic Games

2020’s shining star in gaming Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a battle royale twist where it’s an exhilarating fight for survival around ludicrous golf-course schemed maps, running around as jellybean-people in uniform chaos.

The developers of Fall Guys, Tonic Games Group, sold their company to Epic Games, the famous creators of Fortnite. The definite details of this procedure have not yet been disclosed, but only confirmed through a joint-blog post on the Epic Games blog.

Dave Bailey, the Co-Founder and CEO of Tonic Games Group made a statement saying, “At Tonic Games Group we often say that everyone deserves a game that feels like it was made for them.’ With Epic Games, we feel like we have found a home that was made for us. They share our mission to build and support games that have a positive impact, empower others and stand the test of time and we couldn’t be more excited to be joining forces with their team.”

Supporting these positive statements, Co-Founder and Chief Games Officer of Tonic Games Group Paul Croft said, “Beyond the shared vision among our teams, we see tremendous potential in combining forces with Epic. Whether it’s about making our own games the best they can be or empowering other game developers to take their content from a kernel of an idea to commercial success, we know that together we will be able to reach greater heights.”

The CEO and Epic Games Founder Tim Sweeney said, “It’s no secret that Epic is invested in building the metaverse, and Tonic Games shares this goal. As Epic works to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who know how to build powerful games, content, and experiences.”

The Metaverse, as mentioned here by Tim Sweeney is the virtual reality that exists beyond our own reality. This shared digital platform will create an entire world larger than life and other games. Epic Games has made it clear an established Metaverse is a goal they strive to achieve.

As planned before, Fall Guys will be releasing versions for the Xbox and Nintendo Switch, along with their already launched PC and Playstation versions. It’s possible that you’ll also find Fall Guys up on the Epic Games Store quite soon.

The actual game-play of Fall Guys isn’t going to change, but there is a general game plan for greater success, just as Rocket League encountered with their alliance with Epic Games. The hope is to extend Fall Guys’ reach to a major platform where developers can initiate cross-play and increase the sales until free-to-play becomes a viable option. This will maximize the audience range and enjoyment of Fall Guys.

Now, whether or not Fall Guys’ jellybean avatars will start finding their way into the Fortnite universe is still under debate, but it’s crystal clear that fans of both of these games have much to look forward to.
