Are Scientists developing ‘Electronic Skin’?

The idea is that scientists will produce a material the will mimic human skin and carry out the natural human functions of it. Electronic skin (or e-skin), is expected to play a substantially important role in the upcoming next-gen personalized medicine, prosthetics, and soft robots.

Most e-skins are made by adding layers of active nonmaterial that will act as a sensor on a stretchy surface that is attached to your skin. In order to ensure flexibility the durability of the material has to be compromised.

Making flexible electronics that can perform such intricate tasks the product will have to endure several bumps and scraped from everyday life. Thus every material involved must be carefully engineered.
